URGENT NOTICE: LAKE LOWERING

Attention Lakefront Homeowner:

This is to remind you that the water level of Lake Montclair will be lowered approximately three (3) feet the first week of November.

As posted in the September, October and November Montclairions, on Monday, November 3, 2008, the sluice gate will be opened to draw down the lake approximately three (3) feet.  It is estimated that the gate will remain open for one or more days, in order to slowly draw down the water level in the lake;

Fall Boat Auction

This month is the Montclair Fall Boat Auction.  The MPOA will auction off all unclaimed or abandoned boats located on the West Beach boat racks that do not have current registration stickers.

If you own and store your boat on the West Beach boat racks, please make sure it is registered with the MPOA.  This means your boat is on file with the MPOA office and displays a current ‘December 2009’ sticker and as well as an orange ‘Montclair’ sticker with your 4-digit number.

Storm Water Task Force Report

The Storm Water Task Force report is available for download under the 'Documents and Forms' menu item located on the left hand side of the homepage.

Lake Montclair to be Lowered the First Week in November

Beginning the first week in November, Lake Montclair’s water level will be lowered three feet to allow for dock and shoreline maintenance.  After work is completed, the sluice gate will be closed, allowing the water level to naturally return to 188 feet above mean sea level (Powells Creek flow and rainfall will determine how long this takes).

Lake Montclair Fish Sampling Results

The Lake Management Committee (LMC) has received the Fish Flesh Evaluation report from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The DEQ tested largemouth bass, redear sunfish, brown bullhead catfish, and white sucker fish, and found them to have Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) concentrations below the level of concern; however, samples of large mouth bass collected did indicate somewhat elevated levels of mercury.

Now is the Time to Re-register Your Boat Stickers

MPOA requires that all boats be registered with the MPOA office every two years, and now is the time to re-register your boats. Boats not displaying the current 2009 MPOA sticker will be marked with a reminder notice. If you have not done so already, please visit us at the MPOA office to re-register your boats and pick up your 2009 boat stickers. Information that you will need to have with you includes:

Lake Montclair Dredging Update

Montclair has finally received the rain it's been asking for! The recent steady rainfall has helped raise the water level of Lake Montclair for the dredging project; however, the water level has risen far beyond the needs for dredging. In order to maintain the water level at 189 feet which is needed for dredging, the dam gates will be opened to allow the water level to be lowered. Questions or concerns, call the MPOA office at 703/670-6187.
