On Sunday July 13 at 7:00 a.m., 600 athletes will challenge themselves with a 1000-meter swim, 18-mile bike and a five-mile run.   If you aren’t racing, sit on your front porch and cheer these athletes as they push their limits on the streets of Montclair!  There are a couple of things that you should know about this event as it will affect the flow of traffic on Sunday July 13.

The streets affected by the bike course include:

    Spillway, Dolphin, Ashgrove, and Waterway.

Waterway will have the inside lane of traffic coned off for the bicycles to do their three loops.  The outer lanes will be open but traffic will be held up at Ashgrove as athletes start and finish the cycling portion.  Also, cars will not be able to cross the median all along the length of Waterway.  This includes the intersections at Country Club and Northgate.  The bike course will be clear of bicycles by 9:30 a.m. and traffic will resume normal flow at this time.  If you need to get out of your house between 7:00 and 9:30 a.m., the best way to do this is to park your car on a side street on the same side of Waterway as the 7-11 and the Tennis Courts.  Two good spots for this are the Henderson School or the baseball fields.  Additional options for parking are the MPOA parking lot, the Bloom Shopping center lot, or the V-DOT carpool parking lot on 234.

The run course is a two-loop course along the sidewalks of Montclair.  The runners will not affect traffic flow and they will be most appreciative of sprinklers showering the sidewalk and of folks cheering them on as they run the hills of Waterway Drive.

The race will start at Dolphin Beach at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday June 13 and will be a tremendous sight to behold as athletes from Maryland, Virginia, and Montclair compete for top honors at the 3rd Annual Montclair Triathlon.
