General Manager's Corner

What an exciting time for Montclair! The beaches opened May 24 and Montclair Day is just around the corner.  Mark your calendars for Saturday June 7, and be sure to have your 2008-2009 Recreation tags so you can join your neighbors for a day of fun, games, great food, music, rides and much more.  If you haven’t already picked up your 2008-2009 tags, see page 7 to learn how.

Last summer Lake Montclair experienced a significant problem with E. coli in the lake, especially at West Beach requiring it to be closed on occasion. Currently, Lake Montclair has an ecological imbalance caused by an extreme over-population of geese.  In consultation and cooperation with the USDA, the Association will institute three major recommendations made by the USDA to reduce the impact of the geese on Lake Montclair and its beaches.  Step #1: With training by USDA, egg addling was conducted this spring.  Step #2: The MPOA Board approved roped floats to be purchased and deployed around the beach areas to deter the geese from massing in those areas.  And finally Step #3:  During the molting season between mid-July and mid-August (when geese loose their flight wings and grow new ones) the Association will permit the USDA to transport a number of the geese away from the Lake.

At the April 9, 2008 Board of Directors meeting, the Board instituted changes to the “Policies and Procedures Relative to the Collection of Routine and Delinquent Assessments.”  Delinquent Notices will no longer be mailed ten days after the due date.  If the delinquent assessment or installment is not received within forty (40) days from the due date, the account will be considered to be severely delinquent.  A Delinquent Notice will be sent to the owner requesting immediate payment in full plus all associated late fees.  Any assessment or installment that is not paid within ten (10) days of the due date will incur $15.00 in late fees.  For more on last month’s Board meeting, the Board Briefs can be found on page 9.
