Lake Montclair Fish Sampling Results

The Lake Management Committee (LMC) has received the Fish Flesh Evaluation report from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The DEQ tested largemouth bass, redear sunfish, brown bullhead catfish, and white sucker fish, and found them to have Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) concentrations below the level of concern; however, samples of large mouth bass collected did indicate somewhat elevated levels of mercury. Other species collected included black crappie, redear sunfish, white sucker, channel catfish, and yellow and brown bullhead catfish, none of which contained average levels of PCBs, mercury or any other pollutants that exceeded levels of concern. The overall report indicates there should be no concern for consuming Lake Montclair fish with the exception of large mouth bass and large carp. Click here to view the complete report.
