Guidelines for Board Candidates

In order to ensure a fair MPOA election process, the following guidelines apply to all candidates for the Montclair Property Owners Association (MPOA) Board of Director positions and their authorized representatives.

1. Door-to-Door Campaigning

May be conducted between the hours of 5:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00a.m. - 8:00p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

A name tag must be worn.

When greeting a homeowner, candidates must state their name, and the position for which they are campaigning.

As a general rule, the candidate should spend no more than five minutes at each residence, unless the homeowner is actively engaged in discussing issues. If the homeowner asks the candidate to leave, they must do so immediately.

Candidates should not enter the residence without explicit permission of the homeowner.

2. Flyers

In the interest of maintaining a clean community environment, flyers should be mailed, handed to Owners of Record, placed in the newspaper boxes or secured to doors without damaging the door.

May not be put in the U.S. Postal Box

Flyers should state that the flyer was approved by the candidate by name. As an example: "This flyer approved by Mr. John Doe."

Flyers that address voting procedures should be in accordance with current voting guidelines.

3. Candidates, Budget and Issue Night

Candidates, Budget and Issue Night is an opportunity for the candidates to openly discuss and debate issues with other candidates. This event is recorded and then broadcast by the cable company at various times prior to the Annual Meeting.

Candidates are expected to attend this event, unless urgent business or personal events prelude the candidate from attending. A statement by an authorized representative may be read on the candidate's behalf.

Questions from the moderator will allow candidates the opportunity to discuss why they should be elected. Additionally, candidates will be given questions submitted by homeowners via the moderator.

4. Notice of Meeting Packet

It will contain the candidates' responses to the set of questions in the Board of Directors Candidates Form and a photograph.

5. Montclairion

In March, the Montclairion will publish, along with a photograph, the candidates' responses to the set of questions in the Board of Director Candidate Form. In addition, the candidates are requested to submit an essay for publication not to exceed 200 words. A candidate whose essay is not received by the established deadline will have a statement published to that effect.
