October Events

As fall is approaching, the Events Committee is working hard on the preparations for Oktoberfest. We seem to be on track, but as always, I would like to ask for everyone's help who can make some time that day to volunteer during the event.

For those of you who have never volunteered before, the work involved is just two hours and you will have a lot of fun and will meet new people, possibly one of your neighbors you just never had a chance to introduce yourself to. School age children can use this time as part of their community service hours.

The Events Committee is also planning a new event for Halloween, a spooky party at Kids Dominion followed by a costume swap shop at the MPOA office. Children will have a chance to trade their old costumes for different ones. If you are "spookily" creative, please help us decorate the playground. You can e-mail your ideas to mangrios4montclair@hotmail.com before hand so that we can get the necessary supplies in time. Please make sure you write "spooky party" in the subject.

On August 10, the Events Committee hosted its first ever "Movies on the Beach" night. It was a great success with almost 70 people in attendance! Please look out for this event next summer. We are hoping to make this a monthly event during the whole season.

Last but not least, I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped out with the summer events. I hope you all had as good a time as I did.

CEC Chairperson

NOTES FROM THE EVENTS DIRECTOR

Last month we welcomed in a new event, Movies at the Beach, which were a great success and will become an annual tradition. The Teen Beach Party was highly attended with favorites being the giant slip-n-slide and the live DJ running games on the sand! Thank you to the Community Events Committee and the Montclair Lions for all their help!

Now the summer is over, and we are ready to launch into fall already! The Annual Oktoberfest Celebration will be on September 22 at Dolphin Beach. Food, games, rides, live German entertainment, and beer will be served, keeping in the Oktoberfest tradition which began in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. You must have a valid state-issued ID proving to be 21 years of age or older to be served beer. As always, we are in need of volunteers for this event. Please e-mail Kati Mangrio at mangrios4montclair@hotmail.com, or sign-up online by visiting the MPOA website at www.montclairva.com.

With ALL Events, Please Remember:
