Protecting Your Mail

In response to recent reports of mail theft, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has provided the following tips to increase the safety of your mail.

  1. Don’t leave outgoing mail in your mailbox for long periods of time: place there right before leaving for the day. If you can’t do so, drop off mail at a blue collection box or your local Post Office.

  2. Be aware of any suspicious vehicles in your neighborhood, particularly mid-morning on weekdays. Mail thieves often circle a neighborhood a few times and drive slowly.

  3. Monitor your financial accounts online and report any suspicious activity to your financial institution, the local police and/or the US Postal Inspection Service.

  4. If you’re having a package delivered when you won’t be home, consider having it held at the Post Office or delivered to your place of business.
