Montclair Beaches Update
Effective 12:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2020, all public beaches as defined in § 10.1- 705 of the Code of Virginia may open to individual and family recreational activity, in addition to exercise and fishing. Though Montclair beaches are not “public beaches” the Governor's guidelines for public beaches provide a reasonable outline for managing the use of MPOA beaches. As we move "Montclair Forward" and increase the availability of our amenities it is important to keep in mind we are a private beach and need to manage our community in a safe and responsible manner. The status of our beaches and amenities may not mirror those of the public facilities.
In conjunction with this expanded use, we are happy to share that Guardian Aquatics has been able to resume training of lifeguards. While normally they are all trained and ready to begin the season, due to COVID-19 delays, we will need to staff the beaches with lifeguards in a stepped approach.
Beginning Saturday, June 6th Dolphin Beach will be staffed with lifeguards on Saturday 6/6/20 and Sunday 6/7/20. We anticipate they will be on duty for the weekends moving forward. Once additional guards are certified, we will fill in the weekday shifts then move on to staffing West Beach and Beaver Landing. We’ll share more information as Guardian provides it.
Please remember, at this time guests are not permitted. Also, 2019 Rec stickers are valid through June 30, 2020. After that date, you will need a current 2020 sticker.
The guidelines for public beaches requires compliance with the requirements below.
Require beachgoers to practice physical distancing of at least six feet between each person unless they are with members of the same household.
Prohibit gatherings of more than 10 people.
Prohibit group sports, alcohol, tents, groupings of umbrellas, and other activities and items that attract gatherings.
Accordingly, the language currently restricting the beach use to “exercise and fishing” will be stricken and supplemental signage will be added to state:

-No more than 10 people per group*
-Group sports/activities not allowed*
-No grouping of sunshades or umbrellas
-Sunbathing/lounging permitted
-Swim platforms are closed
* Does not apply to members of same household

No Pets on Beaches
This is a reminder to all Montclair Residents. NO PETS are allowed, at any time, on any of the 3 beach areas from the weekend preceding Memorial Day through the weekend following Labor Day. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
